 | The very nature of the porous scoria
material means that it absorbs up to 30% of it's own weight in water which
is then is slowly released to sustain
plants over time and so minimize watering needs to ensure that every drop
of water is used productively. |

Scoria also insulates the
underlying soil and prevents evaporation as it provides a very
effective insulation layer to the soil while still allowing good
air flow to keep the soil aerated and healthy. (Scoria is used in
industry as a insulation material in critical high temperature
applications). |

| As organic mulches breakdown, they
rob nitrogen from the soil. To compensate for this you have to add expensive
fertilizer to the soil. This problem does not occur with
Mineral Mulches as they will never break down. |

| As the material is non organic, there is no need to
worry about termites setting up home in the mulch and then moving into
your house. The use of standard organic mulches close to timber structures can
create ideal
nesting sites for termites. Scoria gives termite protection. |

scoria
